Lazuli Literary Group organizes monthly 3-hour writing workshops in New York City. In addition to attendance at the workshop, all participants receive 1-2 pages of written feedback from their workshop leader.
Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and we do our best to accommodate the schedules of all admitted participants.
STRUCTURE OF WORKSHOP
Two weeks prior to the scheduled workshop, you will be e-mailed the works of 4-5 fellow participants. You will be expected to read and prepare thoughtful, constructive comments to share with the group during the 3-hour session. During the workshop itself, the workshop leader (Diana or Sakina) will act as moderator, ensuring that all opinions are meaningfully conveyed in a supportive group effort amongst writing peers. You will receive 1-2 pages of written feedback from your workshop leader and will have the opportunity to consult her afterwards with any lingering issues.
HOW DO I KNOW THE EXACT DATE OF MY WORKSHOP?
Your 3-hour workshop will be scheduled during the first week of your chosen month. We would like to account for the varying schedules and deadlines that writers must often contend with; to this end, accepted participants will fill out a form listing their preferred workshop time (days, evenings, Fridays, etc.) and we will schedule a meeting time that is feasible for all. The time will be finalized at least two weeks before the workshop.
HOW ARE THE OTHER MEMBERS OF MY WORKSHOP CHOSEN?
We try to facilitate mutually helpful collectives. Writers of novels, for example, may prefer workshop with other novelists - or not! We may also take into account similarity of style, subject matter, or experience. If you have any preferences of this nature, you are welcome to make us aware of them in your cover letter.
WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?
You may submit one piece of up to 25 pages for each workshop. If the piece is part of a larger work, feel free to include any contextual information that you feel might be helpful. We accept any in-progress work, regardless of whether it has been previously workshopped.
INDIVIDUALIZED FEEDBACK
Your workshop leader (Diana or Sakina) will provide private, written feedback on your work.
HOW MANY TIMES CAN I SIGN UP?
You may sign up for as many workshops as you would like. If you are working on a novel, for example, you may wish to workshop one chapter each month. If you have workshopped with us before, please indicate this when you register.
HOW MANY APPLICANTS ARE ACCEPTED?
We would like to accommodate all writers who are serious about offering and receiving feedback.
FEES
For accepted applicants, the fee for each workshop is $60. There is no application fee and you are free to withdraw your submission for a full refund until two weeks before your scheduled workshop date.
