Jim Shankman is a playwright and novelist. The Holywood Deuteronomy is a set of outtakes from his novel Tales Of The Patriarchs. They are faux biblical texts written my Sidney Thrall, one of the characters in the novel. His play Heartless Bastard and his alt rock musical Billy And The Killers had back-to-back world premieres at HERE in New York City. Four of his plays have been presented in the New York International Fringe Festival: The Church Of St. Luke In The Fields; The Screenwriter Dies Of His Own Free Will, which won a Best Playwriting Award; Kiss Your Brutal Hands; and Suicide Math. Teardown received a Beverly Hills Theatre Guild Julie Harris Playwriting Award. His plays have had staged readings at The New Group, Emerging Artists Theatre, Abingdon Theatre, New Jersey Rep, Penguin Rep, Michael Howard Studios and the T. Schreiber Studio.
